Installation

Install the Chrome Extension

After installation, launch the extension page by clicking the award.flights icon that is on the Chrome toolbar. If it doesn’t show up, click on the Chrome menu button and select to show the icon.

Supported Carriers
  • Star Alliance – NH, AC, SQ
  • Oneworld – BA, JL, QF
  • SkyTeam – KL/AF
  • Other – EY

App -> Extension Quick Differences
  • If you’ve used the app before, the extension is similar
  • The extension will open up a new window with tabs for each of the carriers you select instead of how they work in the app where multiple frames would open in the search page.
  • Setting up accounts is now optional since an extension uses the current browser session. If you choose to not to save your FF account credentials, sign in to your FF account before searching
  • Scratchpad
  • Search History

  • Optional
  • Allows you to use the Scratchpad and Search History
  • Requires a Google account
  • Click on the Sign In button at the top right and sign in using your Google account

Setup Accounts
  • Setting up accounts is now optional since an extension uses the current browser session. If you choose to not to save your FF account credentials, sign in to your FF account before searching
  • I recommend you use dummy accounts so that if the app bombs out it doesn’t lock out your real one
  • Account data is stored locally and never shared or transmitted
  • Click on Settings on the navigation bar and fill out your account info and click save
  • Click the logo or Search on the navigation bar to go back to the search page.
  • Begin searching

This should be pretty self-explanatory.

  • From: Origin (3 letter airport/city code only)
    • Comma separated list of airport/city code if multi-origin search
  • To: Destination (3 letter airport code only)
    • Comma separated list of airport/city code if multi-destination search
  • Date: Date of travel (generally between +0 and +355 days but will depend on carriers selected)
  • Passengers: number of passengers
  • +Days: How many days ahead you want to search
  • Carriers: pick at least one.
    • If you pick JL you will need to specify which carrier you want to search on
    • If you pick SQ you will need to specify whether you want to search only SQ or SQ and *A + Others
  • Cabins: Select the cabins you want to search. Depending on the carrier you may not need to select a cabin
  • Click on the search button
  • A new small Chrome window with multiple tabs will open up and searches will be performed there. You can minimize the window if you want and it will close automatically once the search is complete
  • Try to avoid interacting with the opened tabs – it may cause searches to stall

Results
  • Filters
    • Filter by carrier, connections or cabin
    • Filled in buttons means selected
    • Restrictive/inclusive – filters are restrictive by default. Click on the restrictive button to switch to inclusive.

  • Pin – save this flight to your scratchpad
  • Seats – the number of seats available is shown. If there is a   next to the number that means that there may be more seats available.

Scratchpad

When planning trips, it can be useful to have a bookmark of flights that you’re considering. This is a workspace where you can save flights that you may want to refer to later on

  • Only shows up as a menu option if you’re signed in
  • Grouped by origin – destination
  • If you save the same award, it will overwrite the existing one.
  • You can search again or delete the award by using the buttons on the last two columns

Search History
  • Pretty self-explanatory
  • Only shows up as a menu option if you’re signed in
  • Shows your last 10 completed searches
  • Rerun a previous search
